Hi,
This forum has been extremely helpful in the past so I'm going to try again. My Great Great Grandmother was Brita Sophia Johannsdatter. She was born in Munsala in 1862 and married there as well in dec 1883. I have found the information on her marriage and her form for leaving to come to America but not her birth. I am trying to find who her parents were. It appears that there are not any records after 1842 in Munsala for births, at least not that I can find. She moved to the United States and I have a copy of her death certificate but no parents were listed. I know from her marriage information that she was from the farm of Suni and have found some possibilities for her family with a father named Johann but I'm stuck in making the connection. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Shari

Thanks so much for the birth information, I need a little help with the translation, please. Are Erik Jakobsson and Brita Lisa Johansdatter the parents? This doesn't seem right as her last name at marriage was Johansdatter. I was looking for a father with the first name Johan.

I think Brita Sofia was a very popular name for girls born that year in Munsala. When you press Seuraava=next you get more pages for year 1862 and when you have reached December you have about ten of them and at least two with father's name Johan.
Edellinen=previous
Now the communication books would help a lot, if they were available in net.
Do you have information which year she arrived in USA, because Finnish pass records might help identify her. Hopefully not many Brita Sophias moved from Munsala area that same year to USA.

Just adding that a few Brita Sophias from Munsala went to USA according to Finnish passport records available at http://www.migrationinstitute.fi/index_e.php so Brita Sophia wasn't a short time hit in Munsala
Did she travel to USA together with her husband Johan Flygar onboard same ship and did they use name Flygar in USA and when travelling?
All additional information would help find right Brita Sophia.

Sunii 13.5.1862 Brita Sofia Father: Erik Jacobsson Mother: Brita Lisa Johansdr
http://digi.narc.fi/digi/view.ka?kuid=9035784
Brita Lisa Johansdr b. 31.8.1824 Husband Johan dies 1857 and she married with Johan Erik Jakobsson 5.2.1860.
They have a son Jakob Vilhelm Johansson b 7.8.1860
and I think that Brita Sophia is their daughter. :confused:

Now I at least got it, I believe. Johan Erik might prefer to use his second name Erik and priest might do the same, if not double checking father's name :).
Ok, thanks so much. At least I was reading it correctly. That makes sense about him just not using his first name.
Thanks again so much!!!!!!::p:
