Hello!
I am sorry I do not speak Finnish! Olen pahoillani, en puhu suomea!

I am trying to trace my Ojala family. Matti and Kaisa Ojala came to the states (Houghton, Michigan) in 1888. Their son Jonas Mattinpoika came in 1880 with his wife Greta Liisa Suontakanen. They also had sons named John (Johan?) born in 1846 and Jakob, born in 1854.

I think Matti and Kaisa and the family went by the name Luckarila when they were in Finland. I don't know when or why they changed to Ojala.

I would really appreciate any help finding information on any of the family members!

Hi,

Ojala is a very common name and does not even limit in terms of an area of Finland. You will need to have some idea of their place of origin from America before efficient searches in Finland are possible.

She mentioned Ylivieska in the thread header.

I don't know if there have been many Lukkarilas in Ylivieska.
Sounds more like Siikajoki etc.

oops, sorry about that. Ylivieska church records are available at http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/index_eng.htm up to 1880. Not the birth records though.
