Nimeni on Pete Dale ja asun Torontossa, Kanadassa. Äitini vanhemmat muuttivat Kanadaan Suomessa. Olen innokas amatööri Sukututkijan. Yksi esi-isäni on nimetty Kristoffer Henriksson Platzman. Hän oli omistaja of Haapaniemi maatilan Karkku - 1679-1682. Christofer elämäkerta Akatemian Turun viittaa hänelle Kristoffer Platzman (Christophorus Henrici, Satacundensis) ja toteaa, että hänen vanhempansa olivat mahdollisesti ulosottomiehelle kartanossa Liuksiala ja Kangasalla Henrik Claesson ja NN. Christofer oli ylioppilas Turussa vuonna 1664 (Platzman Xphor. Henrici).

Suuret kiitokset!

English text - My name is Pete Dale and I live in Toronto, Canada. My mother's parents immigrated to Canada from Finland. I'm an avid amateur genealogist. One of my ancestors is named Kristoffer Henriksson Platzman. He was the Master of Haapaniemi farm in Karkku - 1679-1682. Kristoffer's biography from the Academy of Turku refers to him as Kristoffer Platzman (Christophorus Henrici, Satacundensis) and states that his parents were possibly the Bailiff of the Manor House of Liuksiala in Kangasalla Henrik Claesson and N.N. Kristoffer was a secondary school graduate in Turku in 1664 (Platzman Xphor. Henrici). Kristoffer was an Inspection Scribe in the Calvary Regiment of the County of Turku and Pori - 1671-1677. He was a Crown Bailiff of Mouhijarvi in 1675 and then Liuksiala in 1682. Krisoffer's first wife (and my ancestor) was Margareta Eriksdotter and his second wife was Anna Johansdotter Grubbe.

b. approx. 1650
m. approx. 1674/75
d. 1686 - Karkku

I was wondering if anyone was able to shed any light on this family or how I may research it further. I'm curious whether Henrik Claesson Platzman is Kristoffer's father? I have set forth below the Ylioppilasmatrikeli links for both Kristoffer and Henrik. Many thanks!

I would welcome any thoughts on the following link (http://users.utu.fi/~isoi/talot/suoniemi.htm (http://users.utu.fi/~isoi/talot/suoniemi.htm)). I shows a Bernhard Berndtsson Mellin as Master of Kulju Kulju ratsutila in Suoniemi from 1677-1682. He later died in Stockholm, Sweden. He was born in Narva. After Bernhard his wife Catarina Lorenzdotter Creutz was the Master from 1682-1687. After Catarina, Bernhard's brother was Master and later his wife who was a sister of Catarina Creutz. In the following link (http://users.utu.fi/~isoi/talot/karkku.htm (http://users.utu.fi/~isoi/talot/karkku.htm)) you will see that Cristopher Platzman is shown as the Master of Haapaniemi Haapaniemi ratsutila 1 from 1681-1682, i.e. he left as Master the same year as Bernhard Mellin above. Cristopher Platzman's daughter Catharina Platzman married Per Paccalenius/Pakkala who was a native of Suoniemi. I have wondered if, perhaps, Cristopher and/or his family lived with the Mellin family? I note that Christopher's eldest son is named Berndt (b. 1672) which is the name of the Master of Suoniemi Mellin's father and they are both connected with Liuksiala/Kangasala as well. Thank you for any assistance!

Greetings,

I’ve been continuing my research into the Platzman family. I’ve discovered that Kristoffer Henriksson Platzman had the following children:

1. Berendt (b. 1672 - Mouhijärvi Selkee),

2. Christofer (b. April 12, 1674 - Mouhijärvi),

3. Carl (mother unknown. He lived in Pakkala, Mouhijärvi (source: http://hiski.genealogia.fi/hiski/2u5fr0 (http://hiski.genealogia.fi/hiski/2u5fr0))), and

4. Richard. Richard was the son of Christofer Platzman’s second wife Anna Johansdotter Grubbe.

I’m beginning the think that Kristoffer’s first wife (Margaret Eriksdotter) or his father Henrik’s wife (name unknown) may have been a member of the Creutz or Mellin family as these names run in those families. Kristoffer worked for the Creutz family and seems to have worked with and lived near the Mellin family in Suoniemi, Karkku and Kangasala.

I’d certainly be grateful for any thoughts or information that anyone can provide regarding the Platzman family and many thanks in advance for your time.

Kind Regards,

Pete Dale

the namesakes could be due to godfatherhood or a desire to emulate the higher gentlefolk who were their employers. Please do not presume that namesakes is a sufficient ground for genealogical descent.

those people lived in a stratified class society. Servants did not marry daughters of rich aristocrats.

Please forget also all English social models of younger sons going downward in social classes and wealth (I have seen that misconception of amateurs from american continent transferred to german and scandinavian class structures too often). That was in England because of primogeniture in inheritance, but primogeniture was not the norm in Scandinavia. In Finland, sons of mamor-owners usually divided the inheritance, it was not the eldest who receive all. So, younger son's progeny was not that likely to dunk to lower classes soon.

Greetings,

I’ve been stuck on my Platzman family research for quite a few years now. I am interesting in hiring a professional Finnish genealogist to research the family and background of my ancestor Kristoffer Platzman (please see - http://www.helsinki.fi/ylioppilasmatrikkeli/henkilo.php?id=1688). Can anyone please kindly recommend a competent researcher who may assist me? Please advise and thank you.

Regards,

Pete
